History
Hen Long Oriental Food is a family business that first opened in 1984 in a tiny, 1400 sq. ft. store across from Guildford Mall in Surrey. Since that time we called ourselves Hen Long Market. The business idea came from a dream our parents had, to have all their children working together under one roof, close to home. The first few years of operation was slow. But we toughed it out. All the older “kids” had other jobs and even helped subsidized the fledging store and helped out after work. The younger children went to school and on most days worked at the store after school. The business did progressively better as the years went by.
By 1994 we found the store had gotten too small and there were not enough parking for the growing customer base. We moved from this tiny shop to our current location in July 1994.
In this larger location, we were able to expand our business even further. We are now able to import a variety of groceries, seafood, fresh fruits and vegetables from all over the world. We try to remain very competitive by ensuring that our customers get quality food at a great value. And we are always striving to grow and improve.
In December 2011 we completed the building of our new store. We currently occupy the first floor in a state-of-the-art modern building between Guildford Mall and Surrey Central Mall. The building contains two floors of underground parking and three floors of commercial space.
Throughout the years, our store has grown with the help of our many loyal customers. Today, we have a wholesale division that services, cruise ships, restaurants, and we also distribute products from Vancouver to Montreal. Even though we sell to companies that are much larger than ourselves, we still run the business as a family. And we thank all our customers and especially those who have shopped with us from the early tough days and watched us grow, and we still remember that cramped little 1400 sq.ft. shop across from Guildford Mall.
